The child’s health check-up at Acibadem — My Child’s Health Check-Up Program — is a paediatric-led preventive assessment for ages 5 to 17: 23 tests and assessments in one calm visit at a JCI-accredited hospital in Istanbul.

My Child’s Health Check-Up Program is a paediatric-led preventive assessment for children and young people aged 5 to 17. It brings together the five examinations parents most often need in one calm visit — paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, dental and a dietitian consultation — with a two-view chest X-ray, a whole-abdomen ultrasound, a panoramic dental X-ray on the dentist’s recommendation, a resting ECG, body-composition analysis and a 13-test laboratory panel.

The laboratory panel is chosen for childhood: a complete blood count, ferritin, vitamin B12, folate and vitamin D for growth and energy, zinc, fasting glucose, liver and kidney function, a complete urinalysis and a spot-urine calcium/creatinine ratio. Every result is explained to you in plain language by the paediatric team, with clear guidance if anything deserves follow-up.

What the child’s health check-up looks for

Every item has a purpose. This is what each part of the day is looking for — in the words we would use to explain it to you at the final review.

Specialist examinations

The paediatric examination covers growth centiles, development, a vaccination review and a head-to-toe check. The ENT examination assesses the ears, nose, sinuses and throat. The ophthalmology examination covers vision, eye pressure and the retina. The dental examination, with a panoramic X-ray on the dentist’s recommendation, looks at teeth, roots, jawbone and gums. The dietitian consultation turns your body-composition analysis (muscle, fat and water, more informative than weight alone) and your laboratory results into a practical eating plan.

Imaging

A chest X-ray gives a baseline view of the lungs and the heart silhouette. A whole-abdomen ultrasound surveys the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and bladder for stones, cysts, fatty liver and masses.

Heart

A resting ECG records heart rhythm and electrical conduction.

Laboratory panel (13 tests)

A complete blood count screens for anaemia, infection and abnormalities of the blood cells. Sugar metabolism is assessed with fasting glucose, the basis for detecting pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes early. Liver enzymes (ALT, AST) look for fatty liver, medication effects or viral injury before any symptoms appear.

Kidney function (creatinine, blood urea nitrogen) with a complete urinalysis screens for early kidney disease and urinary infection. Iron studies, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D and the mineral zinc explain fatigue, anaemia and bone-health risks that are easy to correct once they are known. The spot-urine calcium/creatinine ratio screens for excess urinary calcium in children.

How long it takes

Plan for about half a day, typically three to four hours. A coordinator plans the sequence — laboratory first while you are fasting, then imaging and examinations — so that you move through the hospital without waiting, and stays reachable throughout the visit.

How to prepare

• Fasting. Do not eat for eight to ten hours before the appointment (an early start is planned so that blood is taken first and your child can have breakfast straight afterwards). Plain water is usually allowed — confirm this with the team when your appointment is confirmed.
• For your child. Bring the vaccination record and any growth or school health records. A parent or guardian stays with the child throughout; a favourite snack for after the blood test helps.
• Records and medicines. Bring previous reports, imaging and a complete list of your medicines. Take your usual medication unless the team tells you otherwise when confirming the appointment.

Results, report and follow-up

The large majority of laboratory results are ready the same day and are reviewed with you by the paediatric team before you leave; a written report in English follows, together with digital copies of your images and reports.

If a result needs a closer look, the relevant specialist is in the same hospital: additional imaging, a biopsy or a consultation can usually be arranged within days, and you decide how to proceed with the full picture in hand. Nothing in a check-up replaces care for existing symptoms — if you have a specific complaint, tell the team so the right specialist sees you first.

Does my child need to fast?

Yes, for the fasting glucose test — usually eight hours overnight. The day is scheduled early so that blood is taken first and your child can have breakfast straight afterwards.

Is the chest X-ray necessary for a healthy child?

The two-view chest X-ray is a low-dose baseline of the lungs and heart silhouette. If you would prefer to omit it, discuss this with the paediatrician on the day; the program is adjusted accordingly.

Can a parent stay with the child during every examination?

Yes. A parent or guardian accompanies the child throughout the day, including imaging and blood sampling.
